BUILD IT. LEARN IT. FLY IT
Rocky Mountain Aero Group, in coordination with KGWS Sumers Airpark (Glenwood Springs Airport), invites students ages 12–17 to take part in a Build & Fly Summer Camp.
This is a unique opportunity for local students to build, learn, and experience aviation firsthand, while working alongside peers and engaging with real aviation professionals.
What to Expect:
Team-based aircraft model build (groups of 4–5 students)
Hands-on learning of aircraft components and systems
Exploration of airfoils and basic aerodynamics
Introduction to flight principles
Access to flight simulators (Skylab)
Interaction with local pilots and aviation professionals
Final Showcase Day presentation and live auction of completed aircraft
Participant Requirements:
Ages 10–17 only
Ability to participate in a structured, team-based environment
Pre-registration is required
Waiver completion required before participation
Closed-toe shoes recommended
How the CAMP Works:
Students will be placed into small teams (4–5 per group) and will work throughout the week to build a model aircraft while learning core aviation concepts.
The camp runs over five days (July 20–24) and concludes with a Showcase Day on Saturday, July 25, where:
Teams present their aircraft
Students share what they’ve learned
Completed models are auctioned to support future youth aviation programs
Why This Matters:
This program is part of Rocky Mountain Aero Group’s mission to expand access to aviation opportunities across the Roaring Fork Valley, including Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, and Rifle.
We are building a long-term pathway for local youth to explore careers in aviation, engineering, and aerospace, starting with hands-on, real-world experiences like this.

All activities are conducted in a structured, supervised environment with safety as the top priority.
The program is led by Rocky Mountain Aero Group in coordination with airport stakeholders, ensuring:
Controlled access to designated areas
Proper supervision at all times
Minimal impact to airport operations
COST: $475 per student
